Santaneshwor Mahadev

Santaneshwor Mahadev temple located at Jharuwarashi, Lalitpur is a beautiful place to visit. It is believed that if you don't have a child, go worship here and you are blessed with a child.

Santaneshwor is a Shiva temple at a top of the hill. It looks very beautiful from the down.

Located at the top of a hill made of rocks with some salla tree at the East, You have to take a long steep ladder to reach the top. You can climb to the temple from 3 directions East, West and North. climbing from South is almost not possible as it is made out of rocks.

People often visit here, but on the months of Shrawan and Magh, a lot of people visit here. Shrawan is always considered as a good month to Worship Shiva and on Magh since the temple is related to Shree Swosthani katha. Mondays are said to be the best day to worship Shiva, so you can see a good number of Shiva devotee on Mondays. There is a huge mela here at Shivaratri.

To visit this temple, you have to take a bus from Lagankhel or Sathdobato to Jharuwarashi, lalitpur. Or you can take a bus to Dhapakhel and then walk from there to the East. You can also take a bus to Godavari highway and get off at Thaiba or Badegaun and take a walk to the West. Since, the temple is a the middle of villages on a  top of the hill, it is visible from far away too. You can easily guess the place you are visiting towards even it is your first time.

Walk on steep steps uphill to the top is worth it when almost all the corners of Kathmandu valley is clearly visible in front of your eyes. You can go to worship Lord Shiva and get blessings or you just can visit here for a beautiful scene of Kathmandu Valley. This place is one of the best viewpoints of Kathmandu valley from where you can see green fields,villages, towns, cities, airports, hills and mountains. From here you can see almost every hill surrounding Kathmandu valley. You just feel relaxed by the cold wind that blows hard especially at the evening with scene of sunset on west, beautiful city, hill and mountains at top on North, village of Lalitpur and Bhaktapur on East and huge hills of lalitpur, dense forests, a different part on kathmandu valley on South.
