A temple without Pinnacle Bajrabarahi Temple


Bajrabarahi Temple is located at Chapagaun, lalitpur, Nepal. Chapagaun is an old newar village rich with art and culture. Bajrabarahi is one of the temples of Goddess Barahi. Bajrabarahi is worshipped as a powerful tantric Goddess. According to the legends, the temple was established in the month of Chaitra in 784 BS by Shrinewas Malla. It is believed that there used to be a pond at the place where the temple stands today. Later goddess Bajrabarahi incarnated from the pond and hence, a temple was established in its place. The temple is two stored with two lions at the side, which are believed to be the guardians of the temple. The present statue of the Goddess in believed to be an alternate one as the original one is preserved somewhere safe. The main interesting facet about the temple is that it doesn’t have a gajur (pinnacle). We find gajur (pinnacle) at the top of almost every temple. There is a story that the gajur was made in Patan and the night before it was to be put, the priest of the temple saw a nightmare where he dreamt that anyone who would try to put the gajur in the temple would die. The temple is still without gajur.
The forest which surrounds the temple is famous for picnics and bird watching. You can find a lot of people coming here for picnics. Sometimes locals also celebrate jatras here.  This temple is also famous for marriage ceremonies. People perform marriage ceremonies and have party at the jungle. Around 166 varieties of flora including rare orchids and different varieties of birds are believed to be found in this jungle. This is also famous research field for the students of environmental science. But the locals believe that fallen woods and leaves from the forest should not be taken outside the temple zone, or else the person will be cursed.

The temple is located at a beautiful place which still has the untouched beauty of the nature that is quite difficult to find in the hectic and busy areas of Kathmandu. It is only 8 kilometers away from the city. To go to this temple you can easily get a bus from Sathdobato to chapagaun. You can find a bus direct to the temple or you have to take a walk for some minute from the main road of chapagaun to the left to get to the temple. You can visit here for religious purpose as well as to have fun with your family and friends. If you are looking for a peaceful place near to human habitation, this might be the right place.

Santaneshwor Mahadev

Santaneshwor Mahadev temple located at Jharuwarashi, Lalitpur is a beautiful place to visit. It is believed that if you don't have a child, go worship here and you are blessed with a child. Santaneshwor is a Shiva temple at a top of the hill. It looks very beautiful from the down.
